Nursing Practitioner Course

Nurses are the backbone of any good Emergency Centre, and for this reason, we have
developed the ECM NP course to support the vital role that Emergency Centre nurses fill. The course has been designed and presented by an Emergency Medicine Specialist to cover essential clinical and practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed by Emergency Centre nurses.

"Fantastic course. I learnt so much through it. Very well set out and very user friendly course. Valuable information that I’m keen to implement as I develop as a trauma Sr. Thank you"

Professional Nurse, EC

The ECM NP course is made up of 15 topics that have been broken down into short videos that can be watched on any device, including a cellphone. The course covers a broad spectrum of topics and specialties needed daily in any Emergency Centre. The course covers major presentations like CPR and ventilation and common minor presentations like an approach to a child with a fever and how to glue a wound.

The videos can be watched at your own pace, with the system allowing you to stop and rejoin the course at any point. The moment you log back in, you will carry on from where you left off.

You will have six weeks of access to the online videos and training content. Six weeks allows for more than enough time to complete the course. After six weeks, your enrolment will expire, and you will no longer have access to the online videos and training content. If you complete the course before the expiration of the six-week access period, you will continue to access the online videos and training content for the remainder of the six weeks.

If you have not managed to complete the course at this time, you will be able to request a further four weeks of access to the videos and online content to allow you to finish the course. Many candidates can comfortably complete the course in as little as two weeks while working full-time, so it is unlikely that you will have trouble with this.

Upon completing the course, you will receive a valid certificate for three years that you can use in your professional development portfolio. Your CV can include the course certificate and the course summary to demonstrate your knowledge of Emergency Centre care. The course is in the process of applying for CPD accreditation from SANC but currently does not provide CPD points

 FAQS:

How many hours will the course take?

The ECM NP course consists of approximately 12 hours of videos with MCQs questions between topics. The course is designed to track your progress so that you can stop a video at any point and continue from where you left off. This allows candidates to complete the course around their schedule. The course, on average, requires 14 hours to complete. The MCQ questions related to each topic are completed immediately after the specific topic has been viewed. The course is completed when the final video has been watched and its five MCQs correctly answered.

How long will I have to complete the course?

Once you have enrolled, you will have six weeks of access to the online videos and training content to allow you to complete the course. You will receive weekly reminders of your progress through the course to help keep you on track. The site also provides a ‘percentage completed’ real-time calculator to assist in your progression, as you work your way through the material.

If you cannot complete the course within the allotted six weeks, you may request a four-week extension at no extra cost. However, we will first assess if there are any challenges that you may be experiencing that we may assist you with to complete the course in the allotted time. If a further extension is required, we can arrange this at a reduced fee.

Will I still have access to the online videos after the course is completed?

The course aims to ensure that all candidates receive a full curriculum of Emergency Medicine training. The limited access to the online content has been used to ensure that all candidates complete the course once they have enrolled. When content is made available without a time limit, it has been shown that the vast majority of candidates will not complete the course until a deadline is given. Candidates have six weeks of access to the online videos and training content. Suppose the candidate completes the course before the expiration of the six-week access period. In that case, they will continue to access the online videos and training content for the remainder of the six weeks. After six weeks, access to the content will expire, and the candidate will no longer have access to the online videos and training content.

Upon completing the course, the candidate will receive a valid certificate for three years. If a candidate wants to repeat the course within three years while their certificate is still valid, they will do so at a reduced rate. Upon completing this repeated course, they will receive a new three-year certificate.

Will I receive CPD points?

No, the ECM NP course is currently awaiting feedback from SANC on what mechanisms are available for the accreditation of nursing courses for CPD points.

Is there an assessment for the course?

The course is broken into 15 topics, with 5 MCQs at the end of each topic. You will need to attain a 100% on the 5 MCQs related to each topic immediately after completing that topic, before being able to move on to the next topic. You are able to redo the MCQs if you were unable to answer all of them correctly.
